Collaborating with artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico, the New York-based brand, Alice + Olivia developed a beautiful fabric to form the canvas of a stunning skirt.

Why we love it:

Everyone’s favourite whimsical New York-based store, Alice + Olivia has a new collaboration up their sleeves. This time partnering with Piece & Co, the brand developed a couple of pieces with artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico. Piece & Co is an organisation committed to promoting female empowerment and self-sufficiency in the developing world but were forced to cut their workforce due to civil uprisings. However, thanks to the collaboration, they were now able to hire more employees and refine business practices.

Working the artisans, Alice + Olivia then created a special fabric made with Zapotec-style hand weaving, a technique that has been used in many cultures across the globe. What resulted was a stunning bright blue and yellow cloth that was sewn into a structured skirt, dress and crop top.

Seeing that they are statement pieces on their own, lay low on accessorising and let these pieces do the talking. Our favourite in the 3-piece collection was the skirt for it could be dressed down or up depending on whether you pair it with a crisp white button down or a slouchy grey T-shirt.

The A-line silhouette with the inverted pleat makes this a rather flattering style for any body shape as well – so there’s really no need to hem and haw over getting this, just do. We know we are definitely ringing this one up.

Where to buy it:

The Alice + Olivia x Piece & Co skirt (approx. SGD377) is available online and at the Alice + Olivia store in Orchard ION.
